50th Anniversary Selma to Montgomery March Commemorative Civil Heritage Trail Walking Tour

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery March, Montgomery’s Downtown Business Association (DBA) will host a walking tour of the Civil Heritage Trail on Saturday, February 28, 2015. The tour will depart from Union Station at 10:00 am and will be led by Montgomery historian, Jeff Benton. The tour is FREE and open to the public. No advanced registration required. The Civil Heritage Trail, sponsored by the DBA, connects 12 historic sites in downtown Montgomery that played pivotal roles in the American Civil Rights Movement and the American Civil War. During this tour, Benton will pay special attention to the sites associated with the Selma-to-Montgomery March and the long history of the struggle for civil rights in Alabama. Participants are welcome to join the tour at any point along the Trail. Some sites will be open to visitors but will have unique hours of operation. Civil Heritage Trail maps are available at any of the trail sites and at the Montgomery Convention and Visitors Bureau Welcome Center located at Union Station.
The Civil Heritage Trail is a walking and biking trail that covers 2.5 miles through the downtown area of the Capital City.
